5 Tips to get started with speaking

five tips to get started with speaking

In today’s post, I will share with you how you can get started with speaking.

Speaking is a powerful marketing strategy to reach prospective clients. It also quickly positions you as an expert in your field. And it can lead to other opportunities like speaking at larger events or doing interviews with media outlets.

So how can you get started with speaking?

1. Hold a webinar

Now, this must be the easiest option to get started. You don’t need to pay for a venue, so your financial and time investment is low. You can reach people all over the world with your message, and you can do it from the comfort of your own home or office. And you can get it started right away.

To hold a successful webinar, you’ll need to promote it effectively and deliver engaging content.

When promoting your webinar, be sure to use multiple channels such as email, social media and perhaps paid advertising. You’ll also want to create a landing page where people can learn more about what you’ll be discussing and sign up to attend.

Once you have people registered for your webinar, it’s time to start preparing your content. This is where you’ll want to really focus on delivering value. Your goal should be to provide your audience with information that they can’t get anywhere else. To do this, you’ll need to spend some time researching your topic and developing original content.

2. Organise your own events

The beauty of organising your own events is that you can start immediately, and you are in control of them. The downside of hosting your own events is that you aren’t tapping into your host’s network.

Organising your own speaking events can be a great way to get exposure for your coaching business or build your brand. But it takes more than just booking a venue and sending out some invitations – you need to promote your event effectively.

3. Set up a meet-up group

Consider also setting up your own meet-up group. For example, if you are a dating coach, you could organise singles dating events as well as talks through meet-up.

4 Speak at other people’s events

Once you’ve done a few of your own talks, you’ll feel ready to speak at other people’s events. It’s best to start with small events in your local community. Meetup.com, for example, is a great entry-level speaking venue.

When people have an experience of you, then you can build trust quickly. At the end of your talk, tell them about your coaching services and offer a freebie in exchange for their email address.

5. Approach larger organisations

As you are getting more experienced, approach larger organisations.

Landing these gigs can be tough though. You’ll need to have a strong platform, a niche area of expertise and a track record of delivering quality presentations.

One of the best ways to get started is by attending industry events and conferences. This will give you a chance to network with people in your field and get your name out there. You can also contact larger organisations directly. This can be done by sending a query letter or by contacting the organisation’s events coordinator.

No matter how you land the gig, remember that it’s important to deliver quality content. This means being engaging, informative and entertaining. And don’t forget to follow up with the organisation after your talk. Thank them for their time and let them know how they can get in touch with you if they have any further questions.

When you follow these five tips, you will get started with speaking quickly. As a result, you’ll get more exposure to potential clients, and your coaching practice will grow quickly.
